How Often Should I Water My Lawn?

Most lawns require an average of one to 1½ inches weekly, but specific watering needs vary by turfgrass type (cool season versus warm season) and time of year (active versus dormant growth season). Cool-season grasses need more water than warm-season grasses, and watering needs are higher in the active season (spring and fall for cool-season grass, mid- to late spring through early fall for warm-season) than in the dormant season (winter for cool-season and warm-season). Cool-season Kentucky Bluegrass, for example, needs 1½ to two inches per week in the active season and ½-inch per week in the dormant season. In contrast, warm-season Bermudagrass needs only one to ¼ inches of water weekly in the active season and only ⅛ inches per week in the dormant season.

Why do I still have weeds after your treatment?

Perennial weeds are resilient and can live longer than two years. They can reappear even after repeated attempts to eliminate them because their storage organs, located at or below the surface of the soil, make it easy for them to not only reproduce quickly, but also survive adverse weather conditions. They are the most difficult to get rid of. They can spread by both seed and creeping roots. If you don’t pull the entire root from the ground the weed can reproduce itself by any remaining piece. Annual weeds have a life cycle that lasts only for one season; however, because they tend to germinate and come out at times of the year when pre-emergent weed control is not active, they can also be very difficult to control. Cool-season weeds sprout any time from fall through spring. They’ll go to flower in late spring / early summer. The plant may disappear when the weather warms, but you’ll see even more of them germinating the following fall. Warm-season weeds tend to start growing in the spring and hang around all through the growing season. Either way, the only way to control annual weeds is to get rid of them before they go to seed again. Luckily, annual weeds very often have shallow roots and can be easily hand-pulled or cut off with a hoe.

Why should I have my lawn aerated?

Aeration helps the soil to breathe when compacted soil and containing thick thatch, which blocks nutrients, water, and air from the roots. This can eventually lead to dead spots, unsightly patches, and thinning turf.

Is Lawn Fertilization Important?

In order to have a healthy lawn (or any healthy plant life, for that matter) you’ll need high soil quality. Using a fertilizer for your lawn is the best way to do so. Over time, your soil will naturally lose many of the important nutrients it needs to survive.
